    Nikkor reaffirms commitment to the DSLR lens market: 80th Anniversary


    It's the 80th anniversary of Nikkor this year and no efforts have been spared to reaffirm DSLR's users the commitment which Nikon has to this segment of the market. A special media tour of the Tochigi factory has had been arranged to commemorate the occasion.

    At the Nikon HQ in Tokyo earlier this week, lens designer Mr. Hiroki Harada and Mr Toshinori Shindao, general manager of Nikon Asia debuts the latest AF-S 800mm F5.6E Super-Telephoto and the AF-S 18-35mm F3.5-4.5G ultra wide-angle light weight zoo lenses. They have shared with fervent commitment of the passion and dedication into each and every Nikkor lenses over the past 80 years!

    Glass is sourced from sand, the very ingredient which makes up of every lens which Nikkor offers. Here we have the roughly ground lens before the next step!

    After a lens is designed, special molds made from propriety molds (of PU and other similar semiconducting processes/materials) are used to grind, lap, polish, and center each and every lens.

    All lenses go through several ultrasonic baths of ultra pure water and Isopropylalcohol (IPA) to ensure minimal dust and blemishes on each lens!

    Yes, certain lenses are painted black on it's perimeter to minimise reflection! Here a mouth-watering tray of Nikkor lenses prepared for the next step in the production line!

    Not only lenses are painted, interior barrels of the lens construction are painstakingly painted black too!

    Each and every step in the lens assembly is put together by the best craftsmen. Skilled, precise and passionate, your Nikkor lens is hand put together every step of the way!


    Every line has a production manager/leader which will ensure the very best quality in each and every Nikkor lens coming out of the factory. By the end of each line, a packaged Nikkor lens will be ready for a life time of triggering and usage!




    The Tochigi plant is responsible for some of the top Nikkor lenses, including the AFS 70-200 f/2.8 VR II, AFS 35mm f/1.4G, AFS 200-400 f/4G, and the ultra important AFS 24-70 f/2.8G which Tochigi can churn out hundreds of these per day to meet the most demanding photographers!


    After each and every step, every lens is checked by machine as well as human to ensure the utmost perfection when you receive the lens in the golden box!
