Olympus newest flagship camera, OMD-EM1 II.

    SINGAPORE – 2 November 2016

Olympus Singapore is pleased to announce the launch of the new OM-D E-M1 Mark II. Advancing from the highly successful OM-D E-M1 flagship series which was launched in 2013, the upcoming successor sees a boost of technological advancements which enables it to surpass DSLRs while bringing portability and image quality into the next dimension.

Featuring a maximum 18 fps high-speed sequential shooting in AF/AE tracking, newly developed TruePic VIII image processor, 20.4 Megapixel Live MOS sensor equipped with the latest 121-point all cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF sensor and an advanced 5-axis Image Stabilization system, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II resonates uncompromised image quality and system excellence that is synonymous with the Olympus OM-D series flagship model.

The roll out of this advanced system will now enable all photographers to capture every detail in sports, motoring and nature photography – while maintaining the compact and mobility of Olympus mirrorless cameras. Coupled with the M. Zuiko PRO lens series, the Olympus system is set to provide photographers with an unbridled freedom of photographic expression.

High-speed sequential shooting for capturing split-second moments

Achieve high speed sequential shooting for capturing split-second moments with the newly developed high-speed TruePic VIII image processor. The double quad core system which encapsulates 4 CPU cores and 4 image processing cores is approximately 3.5 times faster than the preceding TruePic VII version. Combined with the high pixel count of the 20.4 Megapixel Live MOS sensor and the 121-point all cross-type On-Chip Phase Detection sensor, the system improve functionality while achieving a transfer speed that is approximately 3 times faster than the OM-D EM1. This new Pro Capture Mode is also included for time lag-free shooting of full pixel images of split-second moments. The release time lag has been reduced to approximately 30% of the OM-D EM1, achieving high-speed and excellent image quality.

The OM-D E-M1 Mark II also sports a new advanced DUAL FAST AF with 121-point all cross-type sensor which enables accurate detection of subjects and significantly improved focusing performance. By using both contrast AF and On-chip Phase Detection AF together, it enables a fast and precise AF performance in difficult scenes where the depth of field is shallow and using the widest aperture settings for a large-diameter single-focal-lens. Users can control the AF functions easily with the AF Target Mode1, AF Target Position, Face / Eye Priority AF which can easily be set with a single action.

With an added 0.74x (35mm equivalent) high-magnification, high-definition electronic viewfinder, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II is set to rival that of high-end full-frame interchangeable lens cameras.

Excellent handling even in the harshest weather conditions

The OM-D E-M1 Mark II features high-level hermetic and weather-resistant sealing throughout the camera to achieve an extremely reliable dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof (-10°C) design so that one can shoot even in challenging weather conditions. Being one of the pioneers in the mirrorless system camera technology, Olympus offers a model that is compact and lightweight with superb mobility.

Coupled with the equally weatherproof M.Zuiko PRO lens series, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II achieves an amazing handling even in the harshest weather conditions.

Built with pro photographers’ needs and wants in mind, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II comes with an added Dual SD Card Slots that enables versatile shooting, a newly developed shutter that clears durability tests of 200,000 operations to withstand the tough usage of pro photographers in the field and a new Lithium Ion Rechargeable Battery, which is approximately 37% higher in capacity than the battery used on the OM-D E-M1.

    Excellent Image Quality

The new 20.4 Megapixel Live MOS sensor provides a high pixel count and improves resolution with a low-passless filter. The TruePic VIII image processor dramatically improves image quality when shooting at high sensitivity settings, making it possible to capture images with minimal noise that retain details. The normal sensitivity ISO (ISO AUTO) range has been expanded to ISO 6400 for greater flexibility in a variety of shooting scenes. High Res. Shot precisely moves pixels at 0.5 pitch to capture a total of eight shots and then composites them into a single 50M equivalent ultra-high-resolution14 image. This feature is perfect for scenes that require precision image quality such shooting architecture or works of art.

Our first hand review on the Olympus OMD-EM1 II!

As per usual, here is a quick key features of the OMD-EM1 II
Brand new TruePic VIII image processor
    20.4 Megapixel Live MOS sensor
121-point all cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF sensor
5-axis Image Stabilization system ( Up to 6.5 Stops)
maximum 18 fps high-speed sequential shooting in AF/AE tracking
    Dual SD Card Slots
Video quality of 4k @ 24P frame rate / Bit rate of up to 237 Mbps

    Headphone/Microphone Input
    Weather resistant

    First impressions(images coming up soon!)

Body feels solid and ergonomic. A lot better than the previously released OMD-EM10 II, which has a smaller handgrip.

Attached with the new Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO Lens, it feels very well balanced.

Buttons are well placed and easily accessible. Even for someone that is not used to an Olympus system, it is easy to understand and get the hang of it.

Same as the OMD-EM1, it comes with a touch screen which allows users to select the AF point with a touch.

Stay tune more updates of the image quality and video stabilisation capabilities!
